Contemporary a cappella is increasing in popularity in the UK (particularly amongst younger people, although it appeals to all ages) with the success of “Pitch Perfect”/”Pitch Perfect 2”, the BBC TV series “The Naked Choir” and the pop group Pentatonix making number 1 on the Billboard charts last Autumn.

Academix are a 5-piece, new, exciting, contemporary a cappella band based in Woking, bringing close harmony pop and jazz to Surrey. Their recent appearance at the Guildford Fringe Festival received a 4 star review!

Starting with the tradition of The Swingle Singers, they add movement, smooth grooves, beatbox, vocal looping and unique arranging. Their sets range from the Beatles to Buggles and from Andrew Sisters to Pharrell Williams.

All of Academix’s repertoire is arranged specifically for the group by its members, making the most of their unique versatility and talents. Everything you hear comes from their mouths, no instruments are used! You’ll be amazed!

They will be supported on the night by the newly formed Guildford a cappella group, Southern a Cappella. The group is a vibrant mix of talent and style, with the shared aims of fun, hard work and performance excellence.

Take two men, add three women, shake well and wait for the result – which turns out to be great entertainment.
If you closed your eyes, you’d swear there was a double bass on stage. Plus a full set of drums and the occasional violin
