St John’s Church, West Byfleet
To all former members of the choir…
You may know already that St John’s is celebrating the Centenary of it’s Dedication this year (24th June to be precise), and a number of special events are being held through the year.
In particular, we are hoping to make the Choir Concert on Sat 14th July a truly memorable evening by inviting former choristers (from both Adult & Junior choirs) to join us on the day.
The first half of the concert (which starts at 7.30 pm) will be performed by the current choirs, and will include a number of choral favourites that we have sung at St John’s in recent years.
The second half will consist of a concert performance of ‘Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo’, a popular jazz cantata by Michael Flanders & Joseph Horowitz.
This is your opportunity to sing again at St John’s! (Even if you haven’t sung for ages, and/or your voice has broken since you sang here).
We would be really pleased to welcome back any former choristers who would like to sing again at St John’s, and join the choir for the second half performance of ‘Captain Noah’ – details of practice times and how to get copies of the music are given at the end of this letter.
If you prefer not to sing, it would anyway be good to see you again – you will of course be very welcome just to come and enjoy the concert (and please do bring family and friends).
And if you can’t make the concert, please do make a note of some other choral highlights during the year:
Sunday 24th June – Centenary service at 10 am
Sunday 1st July – Choral Evensong at 6.30 pm
Sunday 7th October – Choral Evensong at 6.30 pm
Sunday 23rd December – Carol Service at 6.30 pm
The St John’s website (www.stjohnswestbyfleet.org.uk) has all the latest details of events at St John’s, as well as the Centenary programme.
I do hope to see you at St John’s during the year.
With best wishes
Ian Church (email@example.com; 01483 564939)
Details for former choir members wishing to sing ‘Captain Noah’:
For former choristers, there will be two opportunities to rehearse ‘Noah’ with the current choirs – an optional practice on Friday 13th July from 8.15 – 9.15 pm, and a final (‘must attend’) rehearsal on Saturday 14th July from 3 – 4 pm. Tea will be provided after this practice, and the concert is at 7.30 pm, finishing around 9.30 pm. For those travelling some distance, it may be possible to arrange accommodation – but please ask in advance!
Copies of the music will be available from the end of April, and can be sent to you for a returnable deposit of £10 (please send this to Ian Church, 5, Merrow Place, Guildford GU4 7DL) and I will send a copy by return.
Tickets for the concert will be £5 each, but FOC for those singing in the second half. Dress code details will be advised nearer the day.
