Re-opening for public worship
Following the recent Government and Church of England announcements, plans are well-advanced in order to begin to hold services of public worship at St John’s once again. The Parochial Church Council (PCC) meets this evening and we hope to be able to share good news with you over the next day or so.
St John the Baptist will re open for PRIVATE PRAYERS ONLY from 17th June on Wednesday mornings from 10.00 a.m. – 12.00 noon and Sunday afternoons from 2.00 p.m – 4.00 p.m.
We look forward to welcoming you back into the church.
Certain restrictions will apply and social distancing will be observed.
This is an opportunity for quiet reflection, thanksgiving, and private prayer.

St John’s & Coronavirus – UPDATE
From the Vicar: re-opening the church building for public worship
You will be aware that the Government has said that it is permissible for faith communities to hold public gatherings from Saturday 4th July, subject to distancing and other COVID-secure measures being put in place. The Church of England has – today – just received the promised detailed advice from the Government on how to do this and, therefore, the Diocese of Guildford has yet to digest this and issue local guidelines to parishes.
Until St John’s receives those local guidelines, we are not in a position to confirm when, or on what basis, public worship will recommence. At the moment, for example, there are questions around whether and how to distribute Holy Communion. Nevertheless we hope and expect to be resuming a form of public worship gradually at some stage during July and we will of course keep you informed. Speaking personally, it will be a joy for me to be able to worship with as many of the church family and local community as are able to take part, and I really look forward to it.
In the meantime the building continues to be opened for private prayer on Wednesday mornings from 10am to 12 noon, and from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday afternoons. We have been welcoming a number of friends, including from across the wider local community. It is clearly appreciated and we hope that many of you will want to come back into the building for this purpose if you have yet to do so.
We will let you know more once we are able to do so.
Can we pray for you?
There are occasions when each one of us feels a need for the support of prayer, personally. And during these difficult and taxing times, there may be any number of additional reasons why any of us might want someone to pray with or for us.
St John’s will always offer the opportunity to request personal prayer, but perhaps not everyone is aware of this? There is no need to explain why you need the prayer (unless you choose) – just ask. Send an email to email@example.com or telephone either 01932 343128 (Hazel Craig) or 01932 851830 (Geoff Jones) and they will make sure that your request is made known to the Ministry Team. Be assured that you, or those you are seeking prayer for, will be prayed for. The same goes for other needs you may have – please get in touch if you need help and we will see what can be done.
