Every child (whatever their background) has been born with a fantastic musical instrument – their voice – and our aim is to develop that latent talent into something special. Of course, like anything that is worth doing well, it takes time (and sometimes a great deal of patience) to encourage young people (who may be shy or not even be able to pitch a note) and turn them into confident singers. But we usually succeed, and in recent years our Junior Choir has made a significant contribution to the musical life at St John’s. And some of our former choristers who started here at the age of 7 or 8 have later joined some very prestigious choirs, including those of Guildford Cathedral, Guildford High School, Hampton Court Chapel, Surrey Youth Choir, and Trinity College, Cambridge.
